Melissa Keenan
MSc.OT., OT Reg. (Ont.)
Occupational Therapist
Melissa earned her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Western University. Prior to this, she completed her Bachelor of Science in the Specialization of Biology and Psychology from Queens University, where she began developing an interest in mental health and its functional impact both in paediatric and adult populations.
Her passion for paediatric occupational therapy stems from her extensive experience working with children of all abilities as a summer camp councilor. Through this experience, she learned the importance and positive impact inclusion, integration, and participation within a supportive environment has on a child’s development, independence, and resilience. Melissa believes in collaborative family and client centered care, providing creative and innovative approaches to therapy, as well as incorporating a child’s strengths and interests where possible.
Melissa’s clinical experience largely consists of school based occupational therapy, where she has provided education, strategies, and creative solutions to children, educators, and caregivers to support a child’s participation and success at school. As a student, she gained valuable experience working with children in their early years, which has fostered a deeper understanding and appreciation of the importance of early intervention. Through both opportunities, she has gained experience and confidence working with children who may have fine motor, printing, self-regulation, and sensory needs.
Outside of her professional responsibilities, Melissa enjoys running, participating in yoga and pilates classes, travelling, as well as painting. She strives to maintain a balanced lifestyle, engaging in activities that bring meaning and a sense of fulfillment to her everyday life.
