Maria Khan, MEd, has experience conducting comprehensive psychological and diagnostic assessments and providing evidence-based interventions to children, youth, and their families. Her experiences include assessing attentional difficulties, learning disorders, anxiety, giftedness, and trauma. In working with young children, youth, and their families, Maria applies a wide array of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including, dyadic, play-based, psychodynamic, emotion-focused, and cognitive-behavioural.
Maria completed her Bachelor of Arts (Specialized Honours) in Psychology at York University and her Master of Education in School and Clinical Child Psychology at the University of Alberta. Her undergraduate and master’s research focused on the biological and environmental determinants of early child development. Maria is currently completing her doctorate degree in School and Clinical Child Psychology at the University of Toronto, where her research focuses on risk assessments conducted with youth involved in the criminal justice system.
Maria comes to Boomerang Health with experience working within the Greater St. Albert Catholic School Board, the University of Alberta’s Clinical Services, and the OISE Psychology Clinic. She has also served as a practicum intern at SickKids Center for Community Mental Health and at North York General Hospital.
