    Boomerang Health has Expanded!

SickKids’ Boomerang Health expands to enhance community-based services in York Region

Celebrating a five-year milestone of care with a much-needed expansion

Boomerang Health, an interdisciplinary healthcare centre operated by The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), celebrates its five-year anniversary by growing bigger! Boomerang Health provides a variety of health services, which include general and specialist paediatric services, as well as rehabilitation and developmental services, to children and youth in York Region and beyond.

This model of healthcare delivery by SickKids was originally established to provide high-quality care closer to home. Having all of the services in one location and being an extension of SickKids, provides convenience and instills trust. Offering rehabilitation and developmental sessions on evenings and weekends, as well as during the day, allows families to book appointments at times that work for them, eliminating one of the biggest barriers to health care.

Until now, Boomerang Health was only utilizing 80% of its 10,000-sq. ft. space. In response to an increased demand for services, including general paediatricians, Boomerang Health has expanded its services and now requires use of the full space. The expansion included a renovation, which aimed to create a welcoming and child friendly space, matching the existing space that thousands of families have come to know and love.

“This expansion means more seamless care, more service and a more positive health-care experience for children, youth and their families all under one roof,” says Lara Pietrolungo, Managing Director of Boomerang Health. “In line with the Central LHIN’s strategic priority to bring specialized care closer to home for children and youth, this additional space allows our interdisciplinary team of clinical experts the ability to offer even more rehabilitation and developmental services, including our many innovative group programs. It also allows us to bring aboard general paediatricians to enhance services within the community.”

Boomerang Health’s expansion and five-year anniversary will be celebrated together on Thursday May 10th. Members of the community and local media are invited to meet the team and tour the new space. Families are encouraged to come, as there will be treats and children’s entertainment. The festivities will begin at 2:00 p.m. followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony.
